Concrete jungle madness
Demarcation by Sophie Mayanne.
One of our dearest London photo girls, Sophie Mayanne, shares her captivating story Demarcation—also defined as the action of fixing the boundary or limits of something. The personal series started when some of her closest friends were forced to return ‘home’ after their visas ran out. The photos read much like a sweet but melancholic poem, portraying the life-changing decisions of ambitious, young, real people. Her friends, now confined to online relationships, confess their tales of moving to London and having to leave the life-changing city with no place to call home. It’s a story about friends-for-life in concrete jungle madness. A feeling of instability, plight and being in limbo persists. Sophie tells Glamcult: “I found it difficult as I watched my friends tire endlessly in looking for ways to stay, and each way they turned it felt at times another door was shut.” Life has a way of bringing people into our lives that only ride along shortly but, as shown here, leave a big mark on our existence.
Demarcation is an ongoing project. Sophie is looking for more people to take part and share their stories. For any inquiries, or to participate in the project please contact the photographer.
