Calvin Klein enlists Beth Ditto to go #IRL

Cult brand Calvin Klein has unveiled yet another instantly iconic underwear campaign, this time inviting us to see beyond the filter. The autumn 2019 campaign, #MYCALVINS IRL, sees its bold cast through a number of real life situations occurring behind the glossy surface of stardom.

Supermodel and superwoman Naomi Campbell is depicted sat on a floor painting her toenails like any regular girl; Diplo is cheekily flexing in front of his webcam (bonus relatability points for the bowl of food left by the keyboard); and American football star Odell Beckham Jr appears to be chugging milk straight from the carton in the privacy of a locker room. Songbird Beth Ditto is twirling backstage; and Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi is eating popcorn in front of a TV screen… Generally, there seems to be a lot of snaking happening in My Calvins, which is really no surprise considering the brand’s jaunty reputation for bringing vulnerability and authenticity to the forefront of fashion.

As fun as ever, this new CK campaign brings to life a playful and pure take on sexiness, one that encourages self-expression and underscores the idea that “sexy is a state of mind”. If you really think about it, you and Naomi are really no different when it comes to lounging at home, enjoying a snack or two, and dancing like nobody’s watching (in your Calvins!). Public and private personas are reconciled in the unpolished moments of simplicity and intimacy, something that a filter could never quite match.

What makes you feel sexy?

Connection and love!

How different are your public and private personas?

They aren’t that different! I’d say when I’m in private I’m more quiet because I’m always up to something. I always have a project to keep my hands and mind working all the time. Whether it be song writing or sewing. I keep busy.

What is your favorite CK piece from set?

THAT BRA! Lift me up, honey!

What is it like being in a CK Underwear campaign?

Surreal.

What is sexier? Perfectly polished or unfiltered?

I hardly ever ever ever use filters but if that’s what you’re into… do it!
