BLACK Comme des Garçons has found its way to Amsterdam and will open its very first store in the Netherlands on March 10th! The BLACK line, founded in June 2009, focuses on popular Comme des Garçons styles—unsurprisingly: mostly in black. More unexpectedly, the store will not be located on P.C. Hooftstraat but in the Red Light District, in a space on Zeedijk that was formerly an art gallery. Previously sold in New York and London, BLACK will open its doors in the oldest part of Amsterdam, following the pocket CdG-to go shop in the Prinsenstraat. Challenging fashion norms, CdG has stamped its mark on the industry as one of the most influential, profound fashion labels. Founder Rei Kawakubo previously established a radical concept in fashion stores with retail guru Adrian Joffe, including the Dover Street Market project in London and New York. She aims to subvert preconceptions in retail by means of a process that is much more experimental and innovative, contrary to fashion establishments where extravagance is the norm. Undoubtedly the BLACK store will be a new essentiality in Amsterdam.
