(and their latest collection proves they are here to stay)
Amsterdam’s own YUME YUME earlier this year announced that it would be entering the highly competitive — yet, highly creative — ready-to-wear arena. Having championed the landscape of avant-garde footwear, this first debut, aptly titled, Dramatic Poetry, made its mark and got trendsetters across Europe curious. Now, they are back, this time with a Pre-Spring ’24 collection serving Underwater Flow.
YUME YUME presents to us an ethereal, powerful yet somewhat princess-like collection which hails both femininity and strength. Each piece is raw, yet put together, balancing the wearable art space in which the brand has come to establish itself. From (somewhat oxymoronic) cloud-like corsets to sheer ruffle tops and wave-like black sheer (almost-)pleated dresses, a delicacy runs through the collection.
Alongside the clothing, of course, is footwear. We see a stunning re-take of the Fisherman Boot in which a countryside jacquard fabric falls perfectly around the legs. Depicting a Renaissance scene in dark purple, orange and shades of red, this is a moment-maker by nature. Alongside the Fisherman Boot, we have to hand it to a new favourite of ours: the Clog. Inspired by the brand’s Dutch heritage, the clog projects a platform shoe which continues to feature the YUME YUME signature puffiness with a contemporary twist.
