Tra Fasi: a documentary spotlighting Suriname's hidden punk scene

An ode to the underground

Surinamese for ‘in a different way’, Tra Fasi is a much-needed celebration of the country’s underground and its creative forces that have remained under the radar. A project still in the making, led by an independent filmmaker Charity Sumter, the sun-soaked documentary follows Shavero – a versatile punk musician and event organiser at the forefront of the alternative scene. The story goes way deeper than Shavero’s artistic journey, though; it’s a an ode to the whole subculture, its authentic vibrancy, resilience and devotion to limitless self-expression.

Come support the creation of Tra Fasi this Tuesday at Paradiso for an evening of centering Black voices through panel discussions, art, and live music (featuring our favs MAHA and Jerrau). With sales proceeds going towards the last steps of Tra Fasi’s realisation, the night is all about community and the importance of sharing stories that often go untold.
