Nothing short of magic
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has handed Rosa Barba the keys to the film and video collection, and what she’s created is nothing short of magic. ‘Drawing Probable Conclusions’ is a true journey through Barba’s mind, resulting in a genre-defying, boundary-pushing experience.
Rosa Barba is a newfound inspiration of ours. Her works explore the theoretical side of filmmaking, combining film, installation art, performance, text, and theory to expand the borders of every discipline she touches. Her current work with Boijmans has several layers that the viewer must swim through – metaphorically, of course. You enter the installation welcomed by a mere film. But as you venture deeper, the exhibition expands in a way that only experiencing it can properly explain.
The exhibition reaches its final metamorphosis during the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Art Rotterdam 2024, 1-4 Feb. Here, ‘Drawing Probable Conclusions’ transforms into ‘VOICE ENGINE / Hear, There Where the Echoes Are,’ alternating between exhibition and performance. Traces of Barba’s performances ‘VOICE ENGINE’ (2021-24) and ‘Hear, There Where the Echoes Are’ (2016-24) will hum throughout the room as you wander across her new auditorium.
‘VOICE ENGINE / Hear, There Where the Echoes Are” promises an experience like no other – and we can’t get enough. So do yourself a favor and go see it for yourself from now until 3 March 2024.
Want to attend the premiere? On 1 Feb, Barba, accompanied by choral singers, will give two special evening performances of ‘VOICE ENGINE.’ A true sensorial night at the Depot.
