Thank you Louis Vuitton for this wonderfully well-done hommage ?
A moment of silence for the Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2022 “Daybreak” collection, showcasing the late Virgil Abloh’s designs. While we already had two runway shows left in his legacy, it’s no surprise – and highly appreciated – that the Maison is dedicating this collection to canonizing his work. The Firminy Vert complex built by Abloh’s hero Le Corbusier acts as the backdrop to the lookbook. Abloh himself was vocal about his love of Le Corbusier’s utilitarian design philosophy, which in many ways aligns with his own.
The collection itself defamiliarizes functionality by rethinking elements of workwear and sportswear. The luxurious feel of these basics is not only emblematic of Abloh, but reflects the kind of design we all need as we begin to heal from the ‘covid slump.’ The contrast between the black LV varsity jacket and the bright colors in the cardigans and accessories give us edgy yet youthful vibes. One highlight for us are the beanies – which look an awful lot like the ‘pussy hat’, alongside the bright fuzzy hand warmers.
Overall, thank you Louis Vuitton for this wonderfully well done hommage.
