Where French couture meets the Texan landscape
From sleeky black silhouettes to rodeo saddle bags: this Dior Men 2022 collection was clearly the outcome of many conversations between creative director Kim Jones and his muse of the moment, Travis Scott. It’s undeniable that the Houston rapper is one of this era’s most influential style icons. From front-seat to a seat at the design table, this two-men partnership was only the next logical step. Together, they have created a playful balance between Jones’ finely tailored cuts and Scott’s signature colour combinations (not to forget his ways of styling Dior’s diverse bag legacy).
As the looks flashed by — backed with some unreleased Travis tracks — the space got more and more infused with typically Texan brown, green and pink colour palettes. The imprinted cacti were the cherries on top of the cake: Jones and Scott took a trip down memory lane in honour of Houston, Travis’ birth town. A collaborative show like this is surely one to make people’s heads turn, something Jones and Scott knew all too well. Using their influential power to help raise scholarship money for our next generation’s designers, they’ve also included George Condo’s hand-painted t-shirts in the collection, whose profits will go straight to the Parsons School of Design foundation. It’s a refreshing scenery, and one we can’t help but support.
