Honouring the force of homoerotic art, in Diesel’s style
Under the bold ruling of Glenn Martens, Diesel have quickly gained their status as a hedonistic haven for cool kids over the past seasons. However, with pleasure comes education, and for this Pride, Diesel revived their collaboration with the Tom of Finland foundation to bring us a four-day-long festival celebrating Queer talent, alongside a cheeky capsule collection. The central muse is the historical power and courage of homoerotic art – from Tom of Finland’s hyper-masculine illustrations from the 50s to Stanley Stellar‘s iconic portraits of NYC’s nightlife scene in the 80s, the 17-piece collection is adorned with artefacts exemplifying Queer joy throughout the years. Our personal favs include trompe-l’oeil-like cap and jockstrap, full-print satin shorts and shirts, patchwork tees and sweatshirts. The cherry on top – each garment is finished with a special canvas ribbon printed with a quote from the featured artist. The accompanying exhibition welcomes the public eye for the first time since its launch at Venice’s Biennale last year, and will feature artists from the Tom of Finland’s foundation, as well as multidisciplinary displays from the Paris-based arts institute The Community.
