You probably know Violet Chachki as one of the 14 very amusing contestants on the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, the alter ego of Jason Dardo won Prancing Queens and Hey, Kitty Girls, and went on to win the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar in the season’s Reunited! episode. French photographer Jules Faure captured the wonderful Violet for Glamcult, while having a small chat in the meanwhile.
You’re being shot by photographer Jules Faure in Paris, the city of love. What does that phrase mean to you?
Love to me is putting something or someone above everything else. Giving something ultimate priority.
If you could do one thing illegally without being caught, what would it be?
I think I’d just steal a bunch of wardrobes! I would be so overwhelmed and excited to be able to wear the archives of designers such as Mugler and Dior.
Name one thing the life of drag has brought you most of all.
A community! And a group of entertainers that I can always count on to challenge me to be the best I can be, and to be an amazing support system.
We’re huge fans of the music and videos for Bettie and Gagged. Are there any upcoming plans?
I do have some plans for new music coming up. I really want to do a showgirl track.
Any gossip on moments from RuPaul’s Drag Race the world needs to know?
Hmmm it’s hard for me to remember everything! But there were definitely some intense dramatic and hilarious moments that the girls had on the bus to and from the hotel and studio.
If you could be anyone else for a day…
I wonder what it would be like to be Donatella Versace.
What advice would you give to young people placing their first footsteps on the drag path?
Start now! Don’t wait! Immerse yourself in your art.
