Here’s your first look at the collaborative work of recent fashion graduate Diek Pothoven, as we premiere the images for his collection Canted Conscience together with Amsterdam-based photographer (and Glamcult favourite) Peggy Kuiper. Kuiper’s estranged fashion portraits and stills—which she describes as “an escape from reality”—complement Pothoven’s ArteZ grad collection, which is about all developing “a new form of collective consciousness” outside of what we already know. His method is to take classic shapes, but approach them differently, using his tailoring knowledge (picked up during an internship on Savile Row) to demolish and rebuild. Pothoven’s work is all about deconstruct/reconstruct. In other words: nothing is there because it has always been so. Spectacular key looks from this collection emphasize a graphic window lead with butter cashmeres, luxurious silks and prints, new ways to wear the knitted scarf, and belted straps around the neck—all coming together in a truly accomplished graduate collection.
